Fall / Winter Ensembles and Summer Camps

We offer 10 week, one hour group ensembles typically comprising 4-6 students. The ensembles focus on teaching students to listen and interpret music in a group setting. The groups focus on learning a number of pieces that are preformed at the conclusion of the 10 week session during a recital that is hosted by the School.

Summer music camps are offered and have proven to be quite a bit of fun and popular with the students. Camps include.

  1. Rock
  2. Jazz
  3. Chamber Music
  4. Music Theory / Composition

Music Theory and Composition

Our theory and composition workshops and summer camps serve as foundational, preparatory class work for students who are intending to study music after high school. They also provide adults, who are active amateur musicians with an opportunity to broaden their musical knowledge.

Debra Torok, Ph.D. Instructor

Course Description
The theory component of the workshop is a step above the basic fundamentals of music. Designed for vocalists as well as instrumentalists, diatonic harmony and rhythmic study will be the focal points of this course. Content includes: Major and minor key signatures, scales, intervals, triads, basic harmonic progressions, cadences, beat, tempo, simple and compound meters.

The ear training compoent will enable students to recognize intervals, scales, root position triads, basic melodies and rhythms. They will also learn basic melodic and rhythmic dictation. Since ear training is a skill that improves and develops with time and practice, teaching students a strategy for future improvements and follow-up is also included.
